In North Rhine-Westphalia, the current onset of winter on Monday morning led to noticeable traffic obstructions. Above all Snow and slippery roads had a negative impact on the morning rush hour. Drivers had to expect slow-moving traffic, traffic jams and several minor accidents. The German Weather Service (DWD) had previously warned of wintry road conditions for large parts of the federal state.
Delays and accidents on many routes

DWD warning valid until the morning
The DWD warned of Black ice, slush and freezing wetness, which pose an increased risk of accidents, especially in the early hours of the morning. Drivers were advised to significantly reduce their speed, maintain greater distances and avoid non-essential journeys wherever possible.
Effects on everyday life and traffic
- Road traffic: Sluggish traffic, traffic jams and slippery roads
- Accidents: Mainly minor collisions due to icy roads
- Winter service: Clearance and gritting vehicles in constant use
- Rush hour traffic: Extended travel times and increased caution required
