If it drops, processes slow down, muscles cramp and thinking becomes sluggish. The onset of hypothermia occurs at 35 degrees. If you are out and about, you should not underestimate the danger.<\/p>\n<h2>Basic principles without equipment<\/h2>\n<p>If you don't have a blanket, sleeping bag or stove, all you have is what nature and your own body provide. Three principles help you not to lose the common thread:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Preserve body heat.<\/strong> Anything that prevents heat from escaping is valuable.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Avoid wind and moisture.<\/strong> Cold is bad, but wet cold is deadly.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Dose the movement.<\/strong> Activity generates heat, but too much sweat cools you down later.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Drying and insulating<\/h2>\n<p>The greatest danger outside is moisture.
